Pink Floyd so famously sang these words back in 1971 on Meddle. The serendipity springs out when someone asks me the question; or “Suds, give me a deal man”; or further, “Mate, what’s the best site to buy travel?” Meddle indeed. I love to meddle into my giant spreadsheet of deals and fares every morning. Then I find nothing deal-worthy sometimes and get disappointed. Time to negotiate a special one for you do-gooders.
Susan is not going to pay those ‘fees’ and ‘taxes’ nor will Eric spend 15 hours in Doha, a layover that sounded so trivial originally. Trisha will definitely not spend 5 hours coordinating a group with 17 different traveller preferences – I’d rather Trisha spend all day on Facebook – ok maybe not that. I’d rather that Susan, Eric and Trisha spend their time working that positive Karma for themselves and their clients.
Anyway, it’s tough to comment on the best site to buy travel (well, second best, no?). Almost all have the same logic and herding algorithms. Many have large marketing budgets and many will promise you the lowest prices. Almost all can. Still, I think the good ol Travel agent delivers immense service (we have those too J) – some stuff, you just need to talk to someone about. Imagine if Siri was your bestie ! Yup, not a good life). All sites around today do a fabulous job of bringing you a great travel experience – I know many of them personally and applaud their efforts. Once your itinerary gets complex, it is tough for a site to handle it – can’t handle date changes, lay overs, longer transits etc. It is exciting to find the lowest price but be careful, it may not be the lowest, but make your peace and consider a site that does more than just find you a good deal.
My path is different – I am driven by your happiness, by your values, by your desire to make an awesome world, more awesome. You’ll be sick of your own goodness. That’s my deal.
